Browser testing tools
The following settings can be modified within most browsers. It's worthwhile downloading the Opera browser as it has useful interface buttons that allow you to quickly perform functions such as disabling style sheets.
- change the font size. If you are using relatively sized fonts (for example, '180%' rather than '30px'), then they should all change size. If you set the font size to 'largest', does this have adverse effects on your layout?
- disable images. Is the information and layout still intelligible?
- disable style sheets/fonts/colours
- view pages with alternative contrast. Is the text still readable? Does reversed text print on white paper? If you choose 'print preview' for this document, you will notice it uses a different style sheet for printing.
- can you navigate without using a mouse? Does the tab button progress you through forms logically? If there is a flash object, will keyboard users become trapped inside it?
- disable scripts, applets and other plugins. Is there alternative ways to obtain the information?
- does the site display properly across a variety of different browsers? Remember to test on different platforms
